Do You Have Athlete’s Foot?

Do you have dry skin, redness, or feel a burning sensation on your feet? Athlete’s Foot is a fungal skin infection that is contagious and affects the skin on the soles of your feet and in between your toes. The reason why it’s commonly known as Athlete’s Foot and not its scientific name Tinea pedis, is because you mainly contract it in public change rooms and locker rooms.

What are the symptoms?

  • Bad foot odour

  • Itching

  • Scaly and raw rash

  • Translucent white moist skin between your toes

  • Dry skin on the bottom of your feet

What should you do to avoid Athlete’s Foot?

  • Wear flip-flops in public showers, locker rooms, and change rooms.

  • Dry between your toes and the bottom of your feet after the shower

  • If your feet get sweaty easily, remember to change your socks regularly

  • Use over-the-counter topical antifungals if you have Athlete’s Foot

What shouldn’t you do?

  • Don’t share mats, socks, shoes, or rugs with someone who you know has Athlete’s foot

  • Don’t wear wet shoes or socks

  • Don’t go barefoot in public places

  • Don’t wear shoes that suffocate your feet
